Can CBD Oil Help To Reduce Anxiety?

Can CBD Oil Help To Reduce Anxiety?

GUEST BLOG FROM NATALIE SHIRLAW @ DOES IT WORK – YOU CAN READ THE ORIGINAL BLOG POST HERE

Let’s get the New Year started with the latest buzzword in Wellness – CBD oil. I’ve seen CBD oil popping up everywhere from blogs, in health stores, even beauty experts claiming it’s the new Argan oil.

What is CBD oil & Should I Have any Concerns to Try it?

The very first step would be to find a reputable supplier. I have been using Bristol CBD oil which is an organic CBD oil sourced from European farms using natural methods to nurture the soil, with all the plants being hand harvested. Bristol CBD oil contains no pesticides or chemicals, it is non GMO, suitable for vegans, and with 96% positive reviews on Trust Pilot you know it’s a good oil!

CBD is a food supplement rich in cannabinoids which help bring balance to our bodies and minds without any side effects. CBD is non toxic, non addictive and non psychoactive. It can help with many modern day complaints like anxiety, depression, stress and insomnia plus a lot more;

The Difference between Cannabis & CBD oil

Cannabis oil is extracted from the cannabis plant, whereas CBD is extracted from the hemp plant. Cannabis and Hemp are from the same species of plant, but they are each genetically distinct and unique in their chemical makeup.

Both hemp and Cannabis contain CBD, the non-psychoactive substance. However the main difference between the two, is Cannabis contains THC, which is the substance that gives users a “high’ feeling. Users of CBD don’t experience this feeling, so it’s perfectly safe to use it during the day, or at work without any negative side effects.

CBD oil is legal, however Cannabis oil is not legal due to its THC content and psychoactive properties. So users who purchase or use Cannabis oil in places where cannabis is illegal may be breaking the law.

How to take CBD oil

CBD oil is best absorbed through the gums, so it is advised to take the dropper orally under the tongue. Lift your tongue and place the drops underneath, then leave for 30 seconds before swallowing or drinking. CBD oil has quite a distinctive taste which some people may find off putting, so if that’s an issue Bristol CBD oil has a Gold Oil that has had the bitter taste removed. You can also try adding some honey or molasses to the oil, or the other way I like it, is in my coffee. Simply add the dropper into your coffee and stir; this will take away any bitter taste, and it also seems to give my coffee an extra Va Va Voom!

Dose

Like with most things everyone is different and people react differently to CBD oil. Some are naturally more sensitive than others, so always start with a small dose and build up slowly. I started with the 3% oil, and took 5 drops in the morning in coffee, and 5 drops under my tongue in the evening, which seemed the perfect dose for me. If you’ve never tried CBD oil before you might want to start with less; the recommended dose is between 2 – 20 drops a day.

My Results Using Bristol CBD Oil

The first thing I noticed was my sleep improved, before when I used to fall asleep, it was a very restless sleep with lots of waking up, and never really getting comfortable. I am now finding that I am able to sleep for a solid 7 hours of good quality, uninterrupted sleep. I also seem to sleep a lot deeper and very rarely wake up during the night, and I wake up feeling rested and calm. The second thing I’ve noticed is my stress has reduced considerably, and my anxiety is pretty much zero. This has made such a difference to my everyday life as my life is pretty full. I run my own hair salon, this blog and a small farm which leaves me with very little time to myself. Anxiety is something I have lived with for a long time so to be able to function without it feels quite amazing! The impact CBD oil has had on my life has been quite remarkable; I feel more able to function, much happier, less overwhelmed and naturally, less exhausted. The third thing I’ve noticed is my back pain has reduced considerably. Working as a hairstylist for over 20 years has taken its toll on my posture and shoulder mobility, and I live with low level pain and discomfort continually. Since taking CBD oil I have had a lot less inflammation in the joints, and they somehow feel more lubricated with reduced pain too.

Other Ways To Try CBD oil

I also tried CBD in my skin care; studies suggest CBD is an active ingredient for helping irritated skin, signs of aging and reducing redness, all of which are results I look for in a skincare product. CBD oil can even be used to help treat conditions like psoriasis, eczema, acne, allergies, and even skin cancer, all with successful results.

I tried one drop in my eye cream as I get puffy eyes in the morning and also a drop in my moisturiser as I suffer from redness, and I found both worked really well. My eyes looked distinctly less puffy and my skin looked a lot more neutral in colour too.

My daughter Holly has been inspired and just started using it for her acne; she has already seen reduced redness, and one side of her face has completely healed, but I will keep you all updated on the progress of this!

I am definitely now a CBD oil convert – what a great product – so many uses- how did I live without it before – I hope I’ve inspired you to try it!

This is one product you need to get the New Year – New You started – so let’s go!

Is CBD Oil Safe And Does It Work?

Is CBD Oil Safe And Does It Work?

GUEST BLOG FROM THE FIT MUM FORMULA YOU CAN READ THE ORIGINAL BLOG POST HERE

It’s no secret that CBD oil is now on the market legally in the UK, without prescription, but what is CBD oil, is CBD oil safe, and does it work?

CBD oil stands for Cannabidiol, and comes from hemp plants which have very little THC, the bit that gets you ‘high’ and is found in ‘cannabis’ plants which are the same family as hemp, but not exactly the same. THC filled cannabis and its oil are currently illegal in the UK, though many US States have legalised it for both recreational and medical use. In the UK cannabis oil may be got through prescription in some cases, but it’s not commonly done yet.

So CBD oil is a perfectly legal, plant oil extract that you can buy as easily as any other herbal tincture or nutritional oil, the difference being that CBD is proving to be really quite effective at helping a number of medical issues, both physical and psychological, it’s been proven by the World Health Organisation to be ‘non-toxic, non-addictive, non-psychoactive and has no side effects’.

Since it’s a herbal preparation and not a medical ‘drug’, producers are prohibited from making medical claims – you will not be told it can ‘cure’ anything, because until the powers that be decide it can cure anything, sellers can’t say it will.

But devout cannabis users and fans have been studying the plant (in labs, properly) for hundreds of years and more recent medical studies back up the anecdotal claims, that certain parts of hemp (and indeed cannabis itself) really can do amazing things when it comes to improving your health and helping certain conditions.

Is it safe?

CBD oil is very safe, non-addictive, non-psychoactive and non-toxic, however if you are on medication or have medical conditions, are pregnant or breastfeeding, you should always check with your doctor. Bear in mind that any hesitations are often for precaution rather than because they’re a problem, so do your research and make your own sensible decisions if in doubt.

How does CBD work?

In 1992, Dr. Raphael Mechoulam, an Israeli scientist, discovered that every human and many animals have a system present in their bodies known as The Endogenous Cannabinoid System or Endocannabinoid System. This system is activated by cannabinoids.

Our bodies create cannabinoids, which are used by the endocannabinoid system to maintain balance (homeostasis) in the body. However, unfortunately most of us are unable to create enough of our own cannabinoids and therefore our endocannabinoid system may be out of balance, resulting in poor health.

The endocannabinoid system has often been described as the most important system in the body for maintaining long-term health.

Research suggests that taking CBD oil helps your body to create more of the cannabinoids needed by this system, in turn helping to maintain balance and wellbeing in the body.

My experiences

I tried the 600ml dropper bottle of 3% oil, a good starting oil, and while I was lax enough to not bother dosing exactly, I decided to use a full dropper a day, at bedtime, as the main issue I have is being able (or rather not being able) to wind down and relax in the evenings as I’m quite hyperactive. I’m also aware, as a health professional, that our bodies repair themselves while we sleep at night, so figured this would take advantage of this time when my body was relaxed enough to take full advantage of all the beneficial compounds the oil has to offer. I wasn’t worried about side effects; I may or may not have dabbled in related plants as a teenager 😉

It’s not the most pleasant taste – slightly grassy (it’s from a ‘grass’, after all), and it’s better to let the oil absorb through the gum walls for 30-60 seconds rather than swallow it instantly if possible, but the taste is easily disguised by having a drink afterwards, and like anything that really helps you, you’ll take it if it’s worth it.

I’m on the biopolar spectrum and struggle with erratic mood swings (I’m not medicated because I keep it under control with a very healthy lifestyle) and poor sleep. I get irritable and bored and angry and frustrated and elated – all at the same time sometimes! I can be the life and soul of the party, but calm isn’t part of my vocabulary without concerted effort on my part.

The oil arrived a few days before my 35th birthday so I was in good spirits, and being nearly Christmas there were lots of fun activities going on. But it’s also an incredibly overwhelming time of year when you have young children and you have to remember hundreds of raffle prizes, hamper donations, school fete donations, teacher presents, show costumes and carol services before you even get started on filling red sacks. Calm and resilience against the chaos was what I was hoping for, so I could enjoy the madness rather than feel drowned by it.

And placebo or not (the studies say not), I really did feel better this year. Not sleepy calm, not slower or more relaxed or lazy, but rather I really did enjoy all the business of December, genuinely. I haven’t felt the usual guilt of thinking I wish it was all over and we could skip to January where routine and order would return, while also knowing that’s very humbug and I shouldn’t feel like that at Christmas.

I also came up with a couple of spots on my face (hormones? Trips to dirty London? Not enough sun?) so put the oil on the spots topically at night for a couple of days. The spots went very quickly – quicker than normal, and this is echoed by stories I found online, and why CBD is found in some skincare too.

Was it the oil that calmed both my skin and my nerves? Maybe. I also know that like lots of supplements, there are both short and long term benefits – things that will help your body in some way over a longer time period of regular use. It’s certainly showing to be extremely beneficial for many people and I’m definitely going to try it for a longer period of time, maybe with higher doses, to see how I might benefit.

About Bristol CBD

It’s always good to support British companies and while UK grown hemp is hard to find, Bristol CBD are a small UK company with big integrity, and source their oil from the highest quality producers across Europe. They have a 5* Trustpilot review and all their oils are ‘third-party tested’ which means they’ve been tested objectively in labs for quality and purity.

The oils Bristol CBD sell are 100% organic and come in a range of strengths, from 3% strength up to 20%, and they have both dropper bottles and sprays. They also give dosing guidelines – not everyone will need the same amount to benefit, and if in doubt start small and work up. There should be no unpleasant side effects, but as an example some people find falling asleep easier after taking it so are better consuming it at bedtime, whereas others are energised slightly so should stick to earlier in the day.

The oils are ‘full spectrum’ as opposed to isolated CBD so you get a bigger range of benefits from the different compounds, as found in the plant and as nature intended. The oils are extracted using CO2 extraction, the gold standard method for acquiring the purest and highest quality extracts while leaving behind unwanted plant matter.

Precautions And What Strength Should I Start At?

It is noted that if you are taking any medications that you should consult your doctor before taking any CBD product and will not be sold to anyone under the age of 18. Bristol CBD oil have a comprehensive guide and suggest taking a low dose first, before increasing the dose suitable for you to feel the balance between mind and body.

The daily dosage guide suggests:

First 3 Days 4-8mg.
Next 7 Days 10-20mg.
Going Forward 10-200mg.

Spraying or dropping the CBD oil in the mouth and holding it near the gums before swallowing has shown better absorption of the active ingredients through the mucous membrane in the mouth, than if you were to swallow and it be absorbed by the gut. Bristol CBD oil also suggest you can tailor the taste to your own liking by placing a few drops onto a mint, boiled sweet, or a spoonful of honey.

My Experience Of The Bristol 300mg CBD Oil In A 10ml Dropper Bottle.

Extracted from the plant using super critical CO2 extraction to ensure purity, the oil is a rich dark colour as it is a whole-plant extract suspended in organic hemp seed oil. The low dose is perfect for beginners to be introduced to CBD oil and contains 300 drops in total, while the recommended dosage is 2-20 drops per day. Fast and free delivery, the brown bottle with an eye dropper tool for quick dispensing is accompanied with an informative label. Opening the mouth and lifting the tongue, i dispense two drops to be in contact with the gum and hold the CBD oil in my mouth for a minute, before swallowing. The texture of the oil is not overly oily and quite palatable, while the taste is nutty, earthy, and is best described to think green! I did experience an emotional calming and comforting experience, while also being alert and more focused on any tasks of the day, by only taking 2 drops per day.

The Bristol CBD oil is extracted from organic hemp sativa with no chemicals or pesticides used or present. The growers use natural methods to nurture the produce and they hand-harvest the buds and flowers, before carefully extracting the CBD oil to make it suitable for vegans, is lactose free and non-GMO. Discover the CBD oil of your choice and the beneficial benefits this natural supplement can achieve for optimum health.

GUEST BLOG FROM MISS PENNY DREADFUL – YOU CAN READ THE ORIGINAL BLOG POST HERE

So this is a bit of a different one for me!

I am used to writing about how much I dislike certain fashion collections or that I’m interested in such and such a brand. I am not used to writing about my mental health struggles.

Which is a shame because the more we speak about these things then the more they become normalised and discussed. I made a decision mid last year to be more open about my mental health to people and it has helped. So here we go!

I have chronic anxiety.

This is not a mild worry that I’ve left the gas on but a horrific fear that seeps into my every day that I’m about to fired, my friends hate me, my partner hates me. I started a high dose of medication in 2016 when I realised how ill I actually was. I came home from Italy and was afraid to go for walks because people walking towards me had concealed knives or that the microwave was going to explode at any minute. At my worst, I couldn’t be in a car because of the fear that I would be killed by people driving too close to things.

I have tried so many things over the things but it makes my life a bit of a nightmare. I’m just constantly trying to stop myself from thinking I’m a burden on people. I scaled down the blog, I started to mind myself but nothing works.

I’ve learned this week just how much I struggle with it. My body is currently detoxing from my medication. I forgot to pack my pills for my time in Ireland and I have had to go cold turkey which is not advised.

So where does this blog come into this?

I started to look into alternative forms of medication and help over the past few months. I took up acupuncture and introduced a ‘self care Wednesday’ where I do nothing but eat take away and watch crap TV. But I’m constantly looking for something I could try. People had constantly referred me to CBD oil.

I was delighted to get a bottle of Bristol CBD Oil to use over the past few days.

I’ve really wanted to try CBD oil as I know a few people who use it to take the edge of anxiety. I wanted to use it with my medication as a way to take the ‘argh’ off my day.

There was a catch. I knew nothing nothing about it. In fact, since I started taking the Bristol CBD oil, I’ve noticed how many women have felt the same. I’ve been blown away by how many women on social media have messaged, commented or tweeted me with the same questions I had. ‘How do you take it?’ or ‘where do you get it from?’ questions made me realise that the vape/CBD and online CBD industry doesn’t feel like a particularly female friendly space. There is a market out there to talk to women about CBD oil.

I knew nothing about this before I started. This is where the Bristol CBD website came in handy. It explained everything clearly so I could understand what I was taking. In fact, you can find their information page here if you would like to know more.

I started out slowly using a low dose. I’m glad about this because this was literally the only thing I knew about CBD. When I get a bit stressed or anxious, I put a small amount underneath my tongue. It can be a strong taste at first but its not unbearable and its not too gross. I got used to it quite quickly. In fact, I travelled to Ireland for Christmas (sadly I had to leave it behind) and it nicely helped to take the stressful edge off my journey.

I find travel one of the more triggering things about my anxiety. In taking the CBD oil, I found a nice reassurance that I didn’t have to worry. I’ve done this journey so many times that it is second nature to me now but there is still space for panic that anything could go wrong. While on the CBD, I would start to panic and then I would feel the stress melt away.

I have another reason for wanting to get to grips with CBD oil. I want to order some for my mother who is dealing with the stress of my father’s cancer diagnosis and chemotherapy.

I plan on doing more posts about the Bristol CBD oil once I am back from Ireland. My new plan is to test the accidental detox from my medication to see how I can cope with the CBD. I will also be posting on my socials as well which you can follow: here

You can also find Bristol CBD oil to buy: here. Bristol CBD are extremely reasonable with their prices. I know this for a fact as I tried to buy CBD in Ireland and it was not a great experience! I’m actually about to order some for my mum too! My advice again would be to start small and then build up from there.

Not into the oil? Try the chocolate or muscle rub instead!

Boring disclaimer: I am not asking nor telling anyone to take CBD oil instead of seeking medical advice nor to detox off medication. It has helped me but everyone has a different story. If you think that CBD oil could help you then please please talk to a professional and/or your doctor. Check that it will not interfere with your medication. Bristol CBD are far more experienced then I am about talking about it. Try their website: here

I’ve been trying Bristol CBD Oil after receiving a sample to review. I was sent the 300mg CBD Oil which is a 2,000 mg full spectrum, organic hemp sativa extract. CBD Oil is often reported for it’s health benefits and I was keen to see if it had an impact on my anxiety especially. I have a few different health and mental health issues and I’m always keep to try natural remedies where I can.

What is CBD oil?

CBD Oil is derived from a strain of cannabis plant calle hemp sativa. Hemp Sativa naturally grows with very low levels THC making it legal in the UK. Instead it contains high levels of CBD (cannabidiol) and over 100 different healthy cannibinoids.

CBD Oil is a food supplement rich in cannabinoids and terpenes. CBD works on the endocannabinoid system in the body. Our body productes cannabinoids which are used by the endocannabinoid system. This is responsible for creating a balance (homeostasis) internally. Most of us are unable to produce enough cannabinoids leaving our endocannabinoid system out of balance, resulting in poor health.

CBD Oil bottle

The use of CBD Oil has wide and varied benefits. The World Health Organisation stipulates CBD Oil is non-toxic, non-addictive and non-psychoactive. Research suggest taking CBD oil helps your body create more of the cannibinoids needed, helping maintain balance and wellbeing.

Trying Bristol CBD Oil

The CBD Oil I have been trying came in a little dropper bottle. I read all the instructions and as recommended started with 2 drops to begin with. I wasn’t too sure what to expect from trying the Bristol CBD Oil but I had heard lots of benefits from others. The taste was a little different but I guess that is to be expected. I held the drops under my tongue for a minute then waited to see what happened.

I noticed the CBD Oil had a calming affect on me. With my awful anxiety this was a welcome relief. Being able to feel a little calmer over Christmas even with a few issues and both girls taking turns to have chest infections, was lovely.

I’m looking at getting the next strength bottle next time as there are several different strengths available. Anything that eases my anxiety even slightly is a bonus for me and CBD Oil seems to help. I’m hoping along with my medication and regular self-care, using CBD Oil will make my anxiety much more manageable.

The Natural Healing Of CBD Oil

The Natural Healing Of CBD Oil

GUEST BLOG FROM D2SHINE – YOU CAN READ THE ORIGINAL BLOG POST HERE

CBD has been causing a buzz around the chronic illness community as a natural alternative to pain medication! So often something natural will get hyped and then turn out to not actually do much, but CBD really can help. As someone with Chronic Pain and Seizures i’ve researched it a fair bit and tried it a bit before to good effect. Bristol CBD Oil is an amazing UK manufacturer and supplier of CBD Oil who kindly gifted me a bottle of their oil to review.

What is CBD Oil?

CBD Oil is a natural oil made from the cannabis plant. Before anyone anti drugs has an adverse reaction to this- the oil doesn’t contain the THC ‘drug’ aspect that, say marijuana has. This means that the oil is non addictive and non psychoactive.

CBD can be consumed in multiple forms such as oil, gummies, vaped or in capsules. Oil is the easiest to get hold of and consume currently.

How can it help me?

CBD can do a tonne of good, so here’s some of the science behind it! CBD is extracted from hemp and contains cannabinoids and terpenes. Basically, cannabinoids are a natural chemical compound which help provide relief to a whole load of symptoms including pain, inflammation and anxiety. Terpenes enhance cannabinoids and again have been prove to help with pain and nerves. Personally I use it to help with chronic pain and seizures. It’s best to let you GP know you’re looking to use it if you’re already on medication though.

Bristol CBD Oil

It can be pretty daunting to know where to start with CBD. I had no idea where to start! There are tonnes of suppliers popping up all over the place saying different things and offering various strengths. Bristol CBD Oil is a UK brand run by natural healthcare practitioners Koren Barnwell & Mark Dunn. They work to educate people about the benefits of CBD and work to create good quality oil from hemp.

I’ve found their oil to be great quality and appreciate the range of strengths for building up use offered on their site. It’s definitely helped reduce my chronic pain and given me more energy!

Which CBD Oil Should I Choose?

Which Strength CBD Oil Is Right For Me?

We normally recommend that people start with our 5% CBD oil as this is the medium strength of our range and most people find that this is the place to be. However some people are very sensitive to CBD oil and therefore it is worth considering starting with the 3% oil if you are concerned about using a medium strength oil.

Most people find that they get the benefits from CBD oil by taking between 10 mg and 30 mg of CBD per day. Our 5% CBD oil has approximately 2 mg of CBD per drop or spray.

This means that you can start with a very low dose of 1 to 2 drops morning and evening and slowly work up until you reach 5 to 15 drops per day.

If you are using CBD oil in order to boost your health quite dramatically perhaps because you are undergoing a serious health issue then it is worth considering a stronger oil perhaps 10% CBD oil or the 17% CBD paste.

We offer both dropper and spray bottles and it’s really a matter of choice which one you prefer. Some people like to place drops onto a spoon before they place it into the mouth so that they can mix in a little honey or other sweetener. Other people find that using the spray bottle is easier as you can simply spray the correct amount of CBD into your mouth under your tongue as you see fit. The World Health Organisation stipulates that CBD is non-toxic, non-addictive, and non-psychoactive and, to date, there are no reports of serious side-effects. If you are taking other medication, you should consult with your GP or pharmacist, to check whether there could be any contraindication

When you first start taking CBD oils, you should start with a low dose, and start increasing gradually, as per our dosage guide.

Once you have decided which strength CBD oil you want to buy then you can simply choose whether you prefer to have a dropper bottle or a spray bottle. The Dropper bottles are 10 ml in size and the spray bottles are 20 ml in size so you get twice as much CBD in the spray bottle as you do in the dropper bottle.

If you have any questions regarding which bottle to buy or what dosage to start on please do not hesitate to contact us. We are always happy to help.

How Much CBD Oil Should I Take?

Recommended Daily Dosage Guide

Everyone is different; everyone’s body is different.  As a result everyone reacts to CBD differently. Some of us are naturally much more sensitive to CBD than others.

With CBD it is important to start with a small dose and build it up slowly. Discover how your body reacts to CBD for a few days before increasing the dose. See our guide below. Some people only need about 10mg of CBD p/day, whereas others find that they might require up to 200mg per day.

CBD Oil is twice as bio-available via the gums, than via the gut – which means that it is absorbed much better when held in the mouth for a minute. Spray or drop the CBD oil into your mouth then close your lips and apply slight suction. This boosts the absorption of the active ingredients through the mucous membrane in the mouth before swallowing.

The Endocannabinoid System

The Endocannabinoid System – Why Is It So Important?

We have a number of people asking us how CBD works & why it is so healthy. In short, it’s all about the ‘Endocannabinoid System’ – The Endocannabinoid System has been called ‘the most important physiologic system involved in establishing and maintaining human health’.

If nourished well, and supported with CBD Oil, it has fantastic healing potential.

In 1992, Dr. Rafael Mechulan, an Israeli scientist, discovered that the human body contains an endocannabinoid system. Our bodies create cannabinoids, which are vital in maintaining balance and homeostasis in the body. Unfortunately most of us are unable to create enough of our own cannabinoids and therefore our endocannabinoid system is out of balance.
Until hemp was prohibited alongside cannabis 100 years ago, humans had a readily available source of cannabinoids because hemp was eaten and livestock were also often fed on hemp. Post prohibition, this was largely lost.

When hemp and CBD were legalised a few years ago, many people began to take CBD and other cannabinoids extracted from hemp plants to top up their cannabinoid levels and bring more balance to their systems.

Taking CBD oil helps your body to create more of the cannabinoids that your endocannabinoid system needs to help maintain balance and wellbeing in the body.

Studies have shown that a healthy, functioning endocannabinoid system can help to:

  • Boost immune system
  • Reduce the risk of disease
  • Reduce inflammation
  • Ease arthritic symptoms
  • Improve skin – e.g. psoriasis & eczema
  • Reduce nausea
  • Relieve muscular & joint pain
  • Alleviate depression & anxiety
  • Manage mood swings
  • Combat addictive patterns
  • Improve sleep difficulties
